Trump declared readiness to meet with Iran's leadership
US President Donald Trump stated that he is open to direct diplomatic contact with Iran's leadership.
"I have no problem with meeting with them. If they want to meet, I have no problem with meeting with them," Trump said in an interview with The New York Post, noting that the key condition "is giving up nuclear weapons." "Get rid of the nuclear weapons. It's very simple. There will be no nuclear weapons," the president added.
At the same time, Trump declined to specify what consequences could await Tehran in case of a refusal or breakdown of negotiations, especially against the backdrop of the approaching expiration of the ceasefire. "Well, I don't want to get into those details with you. You can imagine. It won't be anything pleasant," he said, responding to a question about possible escalation of measures, including the seizure of Iranian vessels. When asked whether the US knows who exactly is leading Iran, Trump responded: "We have a pretty good idea, and we think we're dealing with the right people."
