Apple forced to increase iPhone 17 production due to high demand

According to The Information, Apple has asked at least two of its suppliers to increase production of the base iPhone 17 model by approximately 40% or more after identifying high demand for the new product during the pre-order phase. This is reported by Reuters.
This development indicates that more consumers than Apple expected have chosen the more affordable $799 iPhone 17 instead of the premium Pro models, which start at $1099 and typically offer better materials, cameras, processors, and displays.
This week, Apple approached Luxshare Precision, one of its two main iPhone assemblers in China (along with Foxconn), asking them to increase daily production volume of the standard iPhone 17 by about 40%, according to the report.
Apple is betting on its newest iPhone lineup, including the thinner iPhone Air, to revive sales growth of its flagship product after several years of sluggish performance. This comes as consumers have been upgrading their devices less frequently, and new models offer only minor improvements, Reuters writes.
Analysts note that sales of cheaper models could negatively impact Apple's profits, although they will help the company defend its market share.
