Ancient port from Cleopatra's time discovered in Egypt
Archaeologists in Egypt have discovered a sunken ancient port, which may be the key to solving the mystery of Queen Cleopatra's burial place. This was reported by the National Geographic channel.
"This finding indicates that the temple could have been chosen as the burial place for Cleopatra and her lover Mark Antony," noted expedition leader Dr. Kathleen Martinez.
The Dominican archaeological mission has identified stone and metal anchors, numerous amphorae, and remains of an inner port. A tunnel connecting the Taposiris Magna temple with the sea was also discovered, confirming the strategic importance of this territory.
Cleopatra, the last ruler of Ancient Egypt, reigned from 51 BC and committed suicide after the country was conquered by Rome. According to historians, she was buried next to Mark Antony, but the exact location of their tomb remains one of the greatest archaeological mysteries.
