Medications that should not be taken with coffee

Specialists have discovered a serious impact of coffee on the effectiveness of common medications. Pharmacist Heidi Ngo-Hamilton from the University of Minnesota Medical Center shared important observations with the Daily Mail about coffee's interaction with various medications.
Studies have shown that caffeinated beverages can significantly affect insulin and blood sugar levels, which can substantially reduce the effectiveness of diabetes medications, including metformin. Special caution should be exercised when consuming coffee with added cream and sugar.
The specialist notes an important interaction between coffee and antibiotics: the latter can slow down caffeine metabolism, leading to its increased concentration in the blood. This can cause tachycardia and increased anxiety. Special attention should be paid to patients with hypertension, as caffeine can negate the effects of blood pressure medications.
When taking Alzheimer's medications, it is recommended to observe a time interval - take them two hours before or four hours after consuming coffee. This is due to the effect on the blood-brain barrier, which regulates the entry of substances into the brain.
Special attention is given to osteoporosis medications. For their effective action, it is necessary to maintain a two-hour break between taking the medication and consuming coffee.
