Scientists from Deakin University have found that regular chicken eggs can support sleep and metabolic health in women during menopause. The research results were published in the journal Nutrients.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to the journal Nutrients, the conclusions were made based on an analysis of previously published scientific works. Researchers note that the end of the menstrual cycle is often accompanied by deterioration of sleep, changes in body weight, decrease in muscle tissue, and increased cardiometabolic risks.

Scientists emphasize that eggs stand out as a simple and accessible source of high-quality protein, choline, tryptophan, vitamin D, melatonin, and antioxidants. Tryptophan serves as a precursor to serotonin and melatonin - key regulators of the sleep cycle. Choline contributes to the function of acetylcholine, which is important for REM phase, while vitamin D and antioxidants help reduce inflammation and oxidative stress that intensify menopause symptoms.

Individual studies included in the meta-analysis showed that consuming eggs during late meals can be particularly beneficial - in this case, the amino acids and melatonin-like substances contained in the product act closer to bedtime, improving night rest.

Researchers note that eggs can become an accessible dietary element that supports sleep, appetite, and body composition during hormonal changes. However, the product does not replace hormone therapy, medications, or sleep hygiene recommendations. People with increased cardiovascular risks should discuss the frequency of egg consumption with their doctor.
