It became known what affects aging more than genes

Health and longevity depend not so much on genes as on our habits - scientists came to this conclusion after a large-scale study involving nearly 500 thousand people.
As the data showed, genetics affects aging processes by only 2%, while lifestyle - by a whole 17%. In other words, how we live plays eight times more important role than heredity.
Among the key factors accelerating aging, researchers highlighted: smoking, low physical activity, loneliness, sleep problems, as well as physical and emotional exhaustion. Income level and living conditions also play an important role.
The main discovery is that most risk factors can be changed. Of the 25 identified causes affecting aging, 23 are amenable to correction. This means that prevention of premature aging is not only a task for medicine but also for the individual.
The authors emphasize: even with unfavorable heredity, an active and healthy lifestyle can significantly slow down aging and extend life.
