Daytime naps can negatively affect the quality of nighttime rest and overall well-being, warned sleep medicine specialist Jing Wang, noting that such a habit can disrupt natural sleep mechanisms.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Women's Health, according to Wang, daytime naps sometimes create so-called "sleep pressure," which makes it difficult for a person to fall asleep in the evening. This is especially pronounced if daytime sleep lasts too long or becomes regular, as the body's need for nighttime rest decreases.

The doctor also noted that the constant desire to nap during the daytime often indicates problems with nighttime sleep. Among the possible causes, she mentioned obstructive apnea, narcolepsy, and other disorders in which a person may feel tired even after seemingly adequate nighttime rest.

At the same time, Jing Wang emphasized that a short daytime nap lasting 20-30 minutes may be beneficial in some cases. However, it should not replace a full night's sleep. If the need for daytime rest arises constantly, the specialist recommended consulting a doctor to determine the causes.
