Meta is preparing for the largest layoffs
World 4

American technology corporation Meta is considering the possibility of massive employee layoffs amid its transition to artificial intelligence technologies.

This was reported by the Reuters agency, citing sources.

According to their information, the company's workforce could be reduced by more than 20%. At the same time, the sources note that the final timeline and scale of the layoffs have not yet been approved.

If the layoffs do indeed affect about a fifth of the workforce, it would be the largest staff reduction since the restructuring in late 2022 - early 2023. At that time, the company laid off 21,000 employees, which was nearly 25% of its workforce.

As of December 2025, Meta employed approximately 79,000 people.

In recent years, company CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been actively pushing a course toward intensifying competition with other technology corporations in the field of artificial intelligence. The company has been recruiting developers and acquiring startups, including Moltbook and Manus.

Additionally, by 2028, Meta plans to invest $600 billion in the construction of data storage and processing centers.

As Reuters notes, layoffs are also taking place at other American technology companies. In particular, Amazon announced in January plans to lay off 16,000 employees, which is approximately 10% of its workforce.
