Azerbaijan preserves the memory of the tragedies of the Karabakh war but steadfastly adheres to a course toward establishing lasting peace in the South Caucasus.

As Report conveys, this was stated by the Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan - Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev, speaking at Karabakh University before representatives of the diplomatic corps.

"For 30 years, Karabakh was associated with war, conflict, and bloodshed. But while preserving the memory of past tragedies, including the Khojaly genocide, we look to the future - a peaceful future of Azerbaijan and the South Caucasus as a whole," he said.

The Presidential Assistant noted that Azerbaijan has always prioritized good-neighborly and peaceful relations with all neighbors in its foreign policy.

"However, it was not possible to fully realize this priority, as we were in a state of conflict with Armenia. But today I can say that Azerbaijan has established friendly and good-neighborly relations with all neighbors, including the Republic of Armenia," he emphasized.

Hajiyev noted that peace is a complex and long road that requires diplomatic efforts.

"The Azerbaijani government demonstrated such diplomatic courage and extended the hand of peace to Armenia," he said.
