On May 1, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, and members of their family participated in the opening of Islam Safarali Street, spanning the Sabail and Yasamal districts of Baku, following its reconstruction.

As reported by AZERTAC, Head of the Baku City Executive Authority Eldar Azizov informed the head of state and the first lady about the work carried out.

It was noted that the area from Azerbaijan Avenue, including part of Nigar Rafibeyli Street, to Mirzaagha Aliyev Street along Islam Safarali Street has been fully landscaped. A pedestrian passage from here to the Central Park has been provided for the convenient movement of pedestrians.

Improvement works have been carried out on eight streets intersecting with Islam Safarali Street, as well as on the section extending to Tabriz Khalilbeyli and Mirza Ibrahimov streets. The total length of the improved streets is 1,350 meters. Water supply lines and sewage drainage lines have been completely renewed, and external gas lines have been replaced with an underground system. In addition, buildings of various purposes located on the streets have been reconstructed and restored, necessary conditions have been created for the recreation of residents and guests of the city, benches have been installed, and large-scale landscaping works have been carried out.

The implementation of the project provides pedestrians with the opportunity to walk directly from Fountain Square to the Winter Park. There are also architectural monuments of local significance here, built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This further enhances the attractiveness of the area for both local residents and visitors.

The replacement of automobile roads with pedestrian zones will have a positive impact on the operations of shops, cafes, and restaurants, and will create new opportunities for small businesses.

Today, our capital has become one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Consistent measures are being taken to modernize Baku's social infrastructure and ensure the comfort of residents and guests of the city, and the implementation of these projects continues at present. It is no coincidence that guests of the capital invariably admire the beauty and cleanliness of the city. The successful implementation of micromobility solutions, which are an integral part of the steps taken in accordance with modern urban planning trends, and the replacement of automobile roads with pedestrian zones serve the convenience of both city residents and tourists. The implementation of such projects in densely populated areas also contributes to the urban planning carried out in recent years. Thus, these steps, which are an important element of the capital's sustainable development strategy, play a special role in transforming Baku into a modern and pedestrian-friendly city.
