Azerbaijan Premier League: "Neftchi" defeated "Qarabag", "Sabah" became champions

"Sabah" has officially clinched the championship in the Misli Premier League of Azerbaijan.

As reported by Oxu.Az, this happened thanks to "Neftchi"'s victory over "Qarabag" in the postponed match of Matchday XXI. The game at Palms Sports Arena ended with a score of 2:1 in favor of the "black-and-whites."

Emil Safarov (55th minute) and Bassala Sambou (90+2) scored for the home side, while "Neftchi" defender Elvin Badalov scored an own goal in the 85th minute.

Having accumulated 47 points, "Neftchi" moved up to fourth place. "Qarabag," with 59 points after 29 matches, lost any chance of catching up with league leaders "Sabah," who have 72 points to their name.

Thus, "Sabah" has become the champion of Azerbaijan for the first time in its history.

It is worth noting that "Neftchi" had been unable to beat "Qarabag" for 18 matches straight — their last victory dated back to 2021.
