Weather in Baku broke a half-century record: important statement from hydrometeorology

Over the past 15 hours, 57 mm of precipitation has fallen in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, which is more than twice the average monthly norm. Given that the rains continue, a further increase in this indicator is expected.
As Oxu.az reports, this was stated by the Deputy Head of the National Hydrometeorological Service, Gulnara Abbasova.
Analysis of 100-year hydrometeorological data shows that the heaviest rain in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula was observed on April 23, 1966. At that time, 73.3 mm of precipitation fell in 24 hours, which was 317% of the monthly norm. The current downpour, which began on the night of April 16, broke the 59-year record for the amount of precipitation over a 15-hour period.
"On the night of April 16 this year, 57 mm of precipitation fell within 15 hours, which is twice (217%) the usual monthly amount of precipitation. Thus, this is a record figure for the last 59 years," noted the deputy head.
Gulnara Abbasova emphasized that such abnormal weather phenomena have recently been regularly observed not only in Azerbaijan but also in other countries, such as the southern regions of Russia, Turkey, and Spain.
