In the Baku Court for Serious Crimes, the trial of Ramil Mamedov, accused of the brutal murder of his wife while she was performing namaz, has begun.

As Oxu.az reports, at the hearing presided over by Judge Leyla Askerova-Mamedova, the prosecutor read the indictment to the defendant.

Ramil Mamedov pleaded partially guilty to the charges. According to the case materials, the man inflicted fatal injuries on his wife during a family conflict, using a baseball bat.

The tragedy occurred on February 8 this year in the Bina settlement. 47-year-old Lamiya Mamedova was killed with a blunt object while performing namaz. After committing the crime, Ramil Magerram oglu Mamedov fled the country.

The Prosecutor's Office of the Khazar district of Baku, which conducted the preliminary investigation, established sufficient grounds to charge Ramil Mamedov under Article 120.1 (intentional murder) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. In this regard, the suspect was placed on an international wanted list.

Later, Ramil Mamedov was detained in Georgia. At the request of the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan, the competent authorities of Georgia decided to extradite the citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ramil Mamedov in accordance with the requirements of the Convention "On Legal Assistance and Legal Relations in Civil, Family and Criminal Cases" of January 22, 1993.

In March of this year, the accused was delivered to Azerbaijan under the escort of a special unit of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice.
