Prime Ministers of Azerbaijan and Tajikistan discussed the Zangezur corridor

Prime Ministers of Azerbaijan and Tajikistan Ali Asadov and Kohir Rasulzoda discussed the expansion of trade and more effective use of the transport and transit capabilities of the two countries.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan, the heads of government paid special attention to the role of the Middle Corridor and the opportunities associated with the Zangezur Corridor.

The meeting took place within the framework of the official visit of the Tajik prime minister at the invitation of Ali Asadov.

The parties noted that the relations between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan, based on friendship and mutual respect, are developing successfully. They described the signing of the Declaration on Strategic Partnership in 2024 as an important milestone in strengthening bilateral ties. The decisive role of the political will and joint efforts of Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Emomali Rahmon in achieving the current level of relations between the countries was also emphasized.

The heads of government highly praised the mutual support of Azerbaijan and Tajikistan in regional and international organizations. The role of the Intergovernmental Joint Commission, the Azerbaijan-Tajikistan Business Council, and business forums in developing direct contacts between entrepreneurs and implementing new joint initiatives was discussed separately.

In the transport sector, the parties examined opportunities for more effective cooperation. They noted the growing importance of the Middle Corridor as one of the key routes between Asia and Europe, as well as the additional opportunities that the Zangezur Corridor creates for the region's transport system.

The participants of the meeting pointed to good prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation in the energy sector, primarily in the field of renewable energy sources.
