Clara Brugada: Mexico City Prepares to Shape a New Urban Agenda by 2030
Mexico City prepares to shape a new urban agenda by 2030.
As Report informs, Mayor of Mexico City Clara Brugada stated this on the sidelines of WUF13 in Baku.
According to her, as part of Azerbaijan handing over the baton for hosting the World Urban Forum jointly with UN-Habitat, the main focus in the coming years will be on implementing the agenda through 2030.
"Today, the President of Azerbaijan, together with UN-Habitat, handed the baton over to us. We anticipate that in 2028, the main topic of the forum will be the discussion of the agenda through 2030 - that is when the important period concludes, during which the UN and various countries set the goal of promoting the reduction of inequality, redistribution of resources, and achievement of sustainable development goals," she noted.
Brugada emphasized that in 2028, the main focus will be on shaping a new global urban agenda with the participation of cities around the world.
"We will focus on discussing housing policy, the right to the city, and urban planning. These are the topics that will be key," the Mayor of Mexico City added.
Answering a question about the possible theme of WUF14 in Mexico, Brugada said that the central topic would be the revision of the existing urban agenda in the context of the goals through 2030.
"We know that one agenda already exists, however, as I heard at all the sessions, the need for a revision of the new urban agenda has become pressing. That is exactly what will be the subject of discussion - what new goals we set for 2030, what rights and objectives we define, including housing as a human right, affordable housing, and issues such as gentrification, and how we will tackle them," she concluded.
