At WUF13 in Baku, the Middle East crisis and the problems of internally displaced persons were discussed
In addition to the situation related to internal conflicts and problems of Middle Eastern countries, it is also necessary to take into account the consequences of the crisis brought from the outside.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Report, this was stated by the official representative of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Philip Decourtey at an event within the framework of WUF13 in Baku.
He noted that last week he visited Lebanon and Syria, where the situation with internally displaced persons had reached an unbearable level:
"The situation there continues to deteriorate. In Lebanon, the first thing that particularly struck me was once again the massive problem of forced displacement. As UN-Habitat and the UN as a whole, we often focus on those who have found shelter in schools, hospitals, and other public buildings. During conversations with colleagues and governments, it became clear that about 50% of people are actually living or housed in the rental housing market."
Decourtey also added that in Lebanon there has been a collapse of the power system:
"People are forced to use generators. Therefore, rising fuel prices put them in a particularly difficult situation."
