Riyad Gasimov: Baku will become a sustainable and competitive global city
As part of WUF13, a panel discussion titled "Baku Master Plan 2040: A New Stage in Urban Development" was held, where key directions for the future development of Azerbaijan's capital were discussed.
As reported by BAKU.WS, Riyad Gasimov, Head of the Main Department of Architecture and Urban Planning of Baku under the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture, stated that Baku is being shaped in the long term not simply as an expanding megacity, but as a greener, more inclusive, and internationally competitive global city.
"According to the Master Plan, Baku is envisioned not simply as a growing megacity, but as a greener, more accessible, sustainable, and competitive global city," he emphasized.
According to Riyad Gasimov, the plan identifies the expansion of park zones, increase of pedestrian areas, improvement of accessibility of social services, and development of public spaces as priority directions.
In addition, projects such as the expansion of the Central Park, creation of a new waterfront, development of boulevard areas, and renovation of neighborhood infrastructure are aimed at transforming Baku into a more livable city.
