Vice Premier: Families of Kazakhstani citizens killed in the AZAL plane crash will receive insurance payments
Relatives and other heirs of Kazakhstan citizens who died in the crash of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) CJSC aircraft near the city of Aktau in 2024 will receive the insurance payments they are entitled to, and part of the funds has already been paid out.
As reported by Oxu.Az with reference to TASS, this was announced by Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Kanat Bozumbayev at a press conference.
"I looked into it, out of the six deceased [citizens of Kazakhstan], some of the heirs or direct relatives have received all payments. Some, unfortunately, are in courts, because certain individuals are disputing among themselves who should receive the payments. For one family, it has not been determined who should receive the payments. But as for who is responsible for making the payments — it is mainly insurance companies, both Azerbaijani and Russian. And they are ready to make payments when such a decision is made; I think in the near future they will receive everything the same as all passengers regardless of citizenship," he said, responding to a request to comment on the joint statement by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Russia and Azerbaijan on the settlement of compensation issues.
As a reminder, on December 25, 2024, an Embraer 190 aircraft of AZAL operating flight J2-8243 from Baku to Grozny crashed 3 km from Aktau in Kazakhstan.
There were 67 people on board the aircraft (62 passengers, 5 crew members), including 42 citizens of Azerbaijan (37 passengers, 5 crew members), 16 of Russia, 6 of Kazakhstan, and 3 of Kyrgyzstan. As a result of the disaster, 38 people died and 29 people survived.
