Ship-to-ship bunkering operations have begun in the Caspian Sea
SOCAR Petroleum CJSC has announced the launch of ship-to-ship bunkering (fuel supply) operations in the Caspian Sea waters. This step, marking a new stage in the company's development, simultaneously strengthens Azerbaijan's position in the field of maritime logistics and fuel supply.
As reported by BAKU.WS, the first bunkering operation carried out using the ship-to-ship method was successfully conducted in accordance with international standards. This approach allows for prompt fueling of vessels without entering port and significantly increases service efficiency.
The successful launch once again confirmed the company's high operational readiness and professional competence, as well as the compliance of all processes with international requirements.
In the next phase, SOCAR Petroleum plans to expand bunkering operations, introduce high-quality marine fuel meeting DMA, IFO, VLSFO, and MGO (ISO 8217) standards, as well as develop supply infrastructure.
The launch of this line of activity makes a significant contribution to the development of the maritime infrastructure of the Caspian region, strengthens Azerbaijan's role in international transport and energy corridors, and also creates additional opportunities for increasing the country's transit potential.
It should be noted that a bunkering operation in maritime terminology is the process of refueling vessels with fuel and lubricating oils to ensure their propulsion and the functioning of internal systems. In terms of technical execution, this process is carried out using ship-to-ship and shore-to-ship methods.
