Zelensky addressed Trump after Russia's strike on the energy system
Overnight, Russia launched 39 ballistic missiles and more than 120 attack drones and loitering munitions against the energy and critical infrastructure of Kyiv, the Kyiv region, and Kharkiv. The ballistic strike was deliberately aimed at energy facilities for which U.S. President Donald Trump had defined a ceasefire.
This was reported by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on his Telegram channel.
According to him, the scale of the attack demonstrates Russia's blatant disrespect for the position of the American administration.
"The strike was absolutely deliberate and demonstrative in its scale — there has never been such blatant disrespect from Russia toward America. Russia does not consider the statements of the American president to be strong," V. Zelensky stated.
He reported that as a result of the attack, at least 600,000 people were left without electricity. According to him, the scale of the outages may increase. Significant damage was inflicted on facilities and equipment at 26 elements of Ukraine's electric power complex, as well as at four oil and gas complex facilities. V. Zelensky also reported deaths and injuries.
V. Zelensky called on the United States and the international community to respond firmly to what happened, stating that Russia has missed the opportunity for de-escalation and continues the war.
In addition, he appealed to U.S. President D. Trump with a call to impose tough sanctions against Russia and provide Ukraine with additional interceptor missile systems for Patriot air defense systems.
"The President of America has all the strong and sufficient tools to bring peace closer through strength, justice, and pressure on the aggressor," V. Zelensky emphasized.
He also noted that Ukraine should not be left one-on-one with Russia and called on the United States, Europe, and other partners to continue supporting the country.
"Peace can only come through strength, and we ask America to remember this Reaganesque principle," the President of Ukraine stated.
