Trump claims that Iran promises to abandon nuclear weapons
US President Donald Trump claims that Iran has privately promised to give up all nuclear weapons, yet continues to publicly assert its right to enrich uranium.
"To our face, they say they're getting rid of all nuclear weapons, everything is being eliminated. And then they go out to the press and say: 'No, we would like to enrich.' So we'll see," Trump said in an interview with The New York Post. He said he was not sure "whether they are telling the truth."
According to NYP, the negotiations in Islamabad will focus on US demands to hand over approximately 450 kg of highly enriched uranium, permanently open the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping, cease support for regional militant groups, and dismantle the ballistic missile program. Iran, for its part, is seeking the lifting of American sanctions.
