The deserts of Saudi Arabia have been covered with snow
Residents of Saudi Arabia unexpectedly faced winter weather: snow fell in the northwestern and central regions of the country, and people began skiing and sledding, building snowmen and playing snowball fights - a phenomenon completely uncharacteristic for the kingdom.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to foreign media, snow drifts covered kilometers of deserts and mountain ranges, with some areas experiencing this for the first time in three decades. Crowds of men and children rush to see the rare landscapes and indulge in winter activities, sharing footage on social media while simultaneously complaining about the unusual cold and ice.
Snow even fell in the country's capital, Riyadh, forcing schools to temporarily switch to online learning. In addition, other regions of Saudi Arabia experienced thunderstorms with heavy rain. Meteorologists warn that the unusual weather for the country may continue in the coming days.
