The death toll from earthquakes in Venezuela continues to rise
The death toll from the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela has risen to 1,719 people. This was reported by the chairman of the country's National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to foreign media, according to the head of the Venezuelan parliament Jorge Rodríguez, the number of injured has reached 5,034 people. Meanwhile, the fate of tens of thousands of residents remains unknown, and search and rescue operations are continuing.
According to authorities, approximately 15,900 people have lost their homes due to the massive destruction. Rescuers and military personnel continue to clear debris and search for people who may remain trapped under the rubble of buildings.
As a reminder, two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude struck Venezuela on June 24. The tremors caused serious damage to the capital Caracas, as well as the states of Miranda, Aragua, Carabobo, Lara, and Yaracuy.
The most severe situation has developed in the city of La Guaira, where, according to local authorities, at least 100 buildings have been completely destroyed. The region has been placed under military control to coordinate the disaster relief efforts. In total, according to Jorge Rodríguez, 774 buildings sustained damage, of which 189 were completely destroyed.
