The death toll from earthquakes in Venezuela has risen to 1,450 people
According to the latest data, the death toll from two earthquakes in Venezuela has risen to 1,450 people.
This was reported by El Comercio, citing the Speaker of the National Assembly Jorge Rodríguez.
Earlier, authorities had put the number of fatalities at 1,430.
Rodríguez also clarified that 3,150 people were injured, although the previous day 3,238 wounded had been reported. The Speaker of parliament, however, did not explain what caused the change in the statistics.
It has been 85 hours since the disaster. In La Guaira state, one of the hardest-hit areas, the rescue operation has entered a critical phase. Approximately 50,000 people are listed as missing.
The search for survivors under the rubble continues with the help of search dogs and specialized equipment. More than 1,600 rescuers from various countries are involved in the effort.
As a reminder, on the evening of June 24, two earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 struck off the coast of Venezuela less than a minute apart.
