NYT learned about Bashar Assad's luxurious life in Moscow
The family of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, after fleeing to Russia, initially lived at the Four Seasons Hotel in central Moscow, then moved to a two-story penthouse in the Federation Tower in Moscow City, and later to Rublyovka. Family members remain under the protection of security services.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to The New York Times, this information was confirmed to the publication by relatives of the Assads, family friends, and former Syrian officials. According to them, security measures for the ex-president's family remain at a high level.
One Syrian emigrant told the newspaper that he personally saw Bashar al-Assad at the Sixty restaurant, located on the 62nd floor of the Federation Tower in Moscow City. According to him, the former Syrian leader was there as one of the VIP guests.
It is also known that Bashar al-Assad's younger brother, Maher Assad, who previously commanded Syria's Fourth Armored Division, lives in Moscow. According to the NYT, he has been repeatedly spotted near the Capital Towers residential complex not far from Moscow City. In summer, Maher Assad was caught on video at the Myata Platinum hookah lounge in the Afimall shopping center.
It is reported that Maher Assad's daughter Sham lives in the UAE, as does Bashar al-Assad's daughter Zein. The latter is in the country under a "special agreement" with local authorities, studies at the French Sorbonne University branch in Abu Dhabi, and previously graduated from MGIMO.
On December 8, 2024, the command of the "Free Syrian Army" announced the end of Bashar al-Assad's rule. Later, the media reported that he and his family arrived in Moscow, where Russia provided them with asylum "for humanitarian reasons."
