Nurse killed five infants with lethal injections in Argentina

30-year-old Brenda Aguero has been found guilty of deliberately administering lethal doses of potassium and insulin to healthy newborns at a neonatal hospital in the Spanish city of Cordoba. The crimes occurred between March and June 2022, with five infants dying and eight others barely surviving.
As reported by BAKU.WS, according to El Pais.
Initially, the deaths were perceived as accidental. However, after two infants died within one day, hospital doctors appealed to the court. Autopsies revealed the same cause of death - cardiac arrest due to critical potassium levels. This allowed investigators to identify a pattern and suspect deliberate actions.
Aguero had access to medications and infants, whom she took away from their mothers under various pretexts. Witness testimonies from relatives and duty records confirmed her involvement in the lethal injections.
According to the investigation, the nurse deliberately chose healthy children who were under less supervision by medical staff. The court sentenced Aguero to life imprisonment on charges of five murders and eight attempted murders. The jury deliberated for ten hours. The woman did not admit guilt and in her final statement accused the mothers of playing according to a script.
In addition to her, the court sentenced four other high-ranking employees of the hospital and the regional Ministry of Health to four to five years in prison for concealing the crimes.
