New strain of dangerous virus has reached another country

The Ministry of Health of Israel has recorded six cases of infection with the new COVID-19 strain XFG, named Stratus.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to local media, the incidence rate in the country currently remains low. The symptoms of Stratus - fever, cough, sore throat, and fatigue - are similar to the signs of other coronavirus variants.

According to the World Health Organization, existing COVID-19 vaccines are expected to maintain their effectiveness against this strain as well.

"From a public health perspective in general, this COVID variant does not cause concern," noted Professor Eyal Leshem, director of the Center for Travel Medicine and Tropical Diseases at the Shiba Medical Center.

Recall that the strain was first identified in January in Southeast Asia and is already spreading in the USA and throughout Europe.
