Media: Iran to Buy Supersonic Anti-Ship Missiles from China
Iran is close to concluding an agreement with China to purchase CM-302 anti-ship cruise missiles.
This is reported by Reuters, citing sources familiar with the negotiations.
The missiles, with a range of approximately 290 km, are designed to penetrate ship defenses by flying at low altitude and high speed. According to experts, their deployment would enhance Iran's strike capabilities and create additional risks for U.S. naval forces in the region. Reuters was unable to determine the expected volume of deliveries or the value of the potential deal.
According to two sources, senior Iranian military and government officials visited China during the final stage of consultations, including Deputy Defense Minister Masoud Oraei.
"Iran has military agreements and security arrangements with allies, and now is the right time to make use of them," a representative of the country's Foreign Ministry told the agency.
China's Foreign Ministry told Reuters that it had no information about the negotiations. China's Ministry of Defense also did not provide a comment. U.S. President Donald Trump has made it clear that "either we make a deal or we're going to have to take very tough steps, like last time," an administration official told the agency, referring to the ongoing crisis surrounding Iran.
