Historic week: three Azerbaijani clubs surpassed an achievement from 13 years ago

The first matches of the first qualifying round of European club competitions have gone down in the history of Azerbaijani football as the most successful week.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to the Professional Football League (PFL), victories by our clubs in all three matches became the second such achievement in the history of Azerbaijan's participation in continental tournaments.

In the UEFA Champions League, "Sabah" defeated TNS (Wales) 2:0, in the UEFA Europa League "Qarabag" thrashed "Vestri" (Iceland) 3:0, and in the UEFA Conference League "Zira" won by the same score (3:0) against Georgian "Torpedo" (Kutaisi).

Before this, our teams had only once played at least 3 matches in a week and won all of them. In the 2013/14 season, "Inter" defeated "Mariehamn" (Finland) 2:0, "Qarabag" edged past "Metalurg" (North Macedonia) 1:0, and "Khazar Lankaran" overcame "Sliema" (Malta) by the same score. All three matches were played as part of the second leg of the first qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League and took place on July 11, 2013.

After 13 years, Azerbaijani clubs once again secured three victories in one week, but surpassed the previous achievement in terms of scoring. While in 2013 three representatives of Azerbaijan scored four goals without conceding a single one, this time they sent twice as many — eight goals — into the opponents' nets.
