A man from Scotland was diagnosed with cancer after his friends noticed how he was sitting on a bicycle, writes Mirror.

Anthony Ayles, a 68-year-old retired doctor from Edinburgh, was diagnosed with cancer after his friend noticed an unusual posture during a joint bicycle ride, advising him to check his health. This observation prompted the pensioner to see a doctor, where they found a fist-sized tumor in his back. The diagnosis was lymphoma.

A comprehensive examination at the Western General Hospital revealed tumors in his back, ribs, and spine. Initially, doctors suspected pancreatic cancer, but after a biopsy, they corrected the diagnosis. Anthony underwent chemotherapy and radiation therapy, and in May 2025, he went into remission. Now the Scotsman is awaiting the results of new tests to rule out a recurrence.

The former doctor admits that his professional knowledge helped him cope with the disease.

"I told my treating physician: don't pretend that I don't understand anything. Talk to me as a colleague," Ayles said.

In September 2025, Anthony intends to participate in a charity bike ride to raise money for an organization that helps people with lymphoma.
