Azerbaijan-Syrian oil and gas cooperation will create a foundation for the implementation of investment and strategic infrastructure projects.

As Report informs, this was stated by Azerbaijan's Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov at the commissioning ceremony of the Kilis - Aleppo border pipeline, which will ensure the transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Syria through Turkey.

The minister emphasized that the start of supplies to Syria is an important and historic event in the history of cooperation between the two countries, as well as the result of the strong political will of the leaders of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Qatar, and Syria.

"This also demonstrates their commitment to sustainable peace in the region and strengthening economic ties. The importance of cooperation in the energy sector was particularly emphasized during the meeting of the presidents of Azerbaijan and Syria, Ilham Aliyev and Ahmed al-Sharaa, on April 11 this year in Antalya, as well as during the negotiations held on July 12 as part of the Syrian leader's state visit to Azerbaijan. The importance of Azerbaijan's support to Syria in this area was noted," the minister said.

According to him, the export of Azerbaijani gas is intended to make an important contribution to the energy security of Syria, which is currently experiencing serious difficulties in the energy sector. It is for this reason that the top leadership of Azerbaijan ordered the project to be implemented in a short time and urgent measures to be taken, Jabbarov emphasized.

"Turkey's support played a decisive role in the successful implementation of the project. The strategic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkey, existing in all areas, including energy, has made a significant contribution to this project as well. As two brotherly countries, we continue joint efforts for the restoration and development of Syria," the minister said.

Jabbarov emphasized that the supply of Azerbaijani natural gas to Syria through Turkey not only opens a new stage in the history of the country's energy exports but also lays the foundation for an energy bridge between the South Caucasus and the Middle East.

"At the initial stage, the annual volume of gas to be supplied to Syria is envisaged to be up to 1.2 billion cubic meters. We believe that these supplies will play a significant role in restoring Syria's economy and improving the social welfare of the population.

Today's significant event marks the beginning of a new stage of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Syria in the oil and gas sector. We are confident that this partnership, in addition to stimulating mutual economic development, will create a solid foundation for strengthening regional energy security, as well as implementing joint investment and strategic infrastructure projects," he concluded.
