Iran suspended production at the largest gas field after Israel's strike

Iran partially suspended gas production at the South Pars field after an Israeli strike on Saturday, which, according to Iranian media, caused a fire and explosion at the production infrastructure.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Reuters, the Israeli drone attack led to the shutdown of one of the four production units at the field, which is the largest in the world and has proven reserves of 28 trillion cubic meters.
South Pars provides about 70% of Iran's gas production. In total, the Islamic republic produces 250 billion cubic meters of gas annually, or 6% of global production, however, almost all of this gas is consumed domestically.
Also under Israeli strikes were the large "Shahran" oil depot near Tehran and the "Shahr Rey" oil refinery in the Iranian capital, one of the largest in the country, writes Aljazeera.
The attack was concentrated on Iranian energy infrastructure oriented toward domestic consumption, ING analysts note. The Iranians, in turn, responded with strikes on Israeli energy facilities, points out Middle East Institute research fellow Alex Vatanka: on Sunday, missiles attacked refineries and fuel depots in Haifa.
