In the future, the key factors determining the technological development of new petrochemical plants will be feedstock versatility and "green energy" integration.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Report, this was stated by SOCAR Trading consultant Mevlut Cetinkaya during the II Oil Trade and Transport Forum "Caspian and Central Asia" in Baku.

According to him, the first factor is related to expanding the possibilities of utilizing the raw material base.

"Today, technologies are being developed that allow the use of not just one specific type of feedstock, but a wide range of resources. This makes production more flexible and resilient to market changes," he noted.

The consultant named the integration of renewable energy sources into petrochemical processes as the second key direction.

"This is about the aspiration to maximize the integration of 'green energy' into production chains. Currently, the main technological developments are focused precisely on this direction, but their full-scale commercialization will take time," M. Cetinkaya emphasized.

He added that special attention is being given to crude oil-to-chemicals (S2C) technologies, as well as the development of hydrogen energy. These areas are considered key elements of the integration of oil refining and petrochemistry.

"At the moment, research is ongoing. Major international companies are already working on bringing such solutions to a commercial level by 2030," the consultant noted.
