Shocking consequences of snail procedures: what this means for your skin

Cosmetic procedures using snails and snail slime products have become a real trend in the beauty industry.
Many salons offer massages with live snails or treatments using mucin extract, promising skin rejuvenation, wrinkle reduction, and improved tone. However, behind the bright advertising and promises lie little-known facts that make one question the safety of such procedures.
Snail slime does indeed contain beneficial substances: collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid, and antioxidants. But in salon conditions, it's impossible to guarantee sterility. Live snails can carry bacteria, fungi, and microorganisms capable of causing irritation or infection on the skin. This is especially dangerous for people with weakened immune systems or open skin damage.
Another problem is related to unpredictable body reactions. Natural components of mucin can cause allergies, which manifest as redness, itching, and rashes. In some cases, more severe reactions occur - swelling or skin inflammation requiring medical intervention.
It's also worth considering that the effectiveness of such procedures is greatly exaggerated. Many cosmetologists admit that the rejuvenating effect of snail slime is temporary and comparable to the action of a regular moisturizing cream. But the risk of damaging the skin and introducing infection remains quite real.
No less concerning is the question of ethics. To obtain slime, snails are kept in unnatural conditions, which causes controversy among animal rights activists.
Thus, despite the attractiveness and exotic nature of snail procedures, they are far from being a safe and scientifically proven method of skin care. Before deciding on such an experiment, it's worth carefully weighing all the risks and considering whether it might be better to choose proven and safe care products.
