11-year-old girl gave birth after rape

In Brazil, an 11-year-old girl gave birth to a baby. The incident occurred on September 9 in the municipality of Curitibanos, state of Santa Catarina. The mother and the newborn were taken to the hospital, and their condition is assessed as satisfactory.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to foreign press, the police are investigating the incident as rape of a vulnerable person. Under Brazilian law, sexual contact with children under 14 years of age is automatically classified as rape, regardless of consent.

The girl's family has already been interviewed. After being discharged from the hospital, the minor will give testimony in the presence of a specialist. The case is also under the supervision of the guardianship council, and the question of who will keep the baby has not yet been resolved.
