Fertilizers Are Sharply Rising in Price in Azerbaijan: What Are the Risks for the Food Market?
Be the first to know
Ongoing armed conflicts around the world are driving up fertilizer prices on the international market. In particular, tensions in regions where Azerbaijan's main trading partners are located, as well as problems arising in supply chains, are also affecting this sector. As a result, the cost of some imported types of fertilizers has recently increased by 25-35%.
As reported by Oxu.Az with reference to Baku TV, the price increase is also reflected in farmers' expenses.
At the same time, the reduction in fertilizer use due to rising prices increases the risks of declining yields and deteriorating product quality.
Commenting on the situation, agricultural specialist Vahid Maharramli noted that due to the rise in fertilizer prices, farmers are forced to reduce the volume of their use. This directly affects crop yields.
According to him, if previously a ton of nitrogen fertilizers imported from Russia was sold for 31 manats, the price has now risen to 43 manats. The cost of locally produced urea has also increased.
The specialist believes that despite rising costs, farmers should not abandon the use of fertilizers.
"In fact, even if they are expensive now, farmers should purchase fertilizers and strive to increase yields. They can increase their profits only through higher harvest volumes," he added.
According to the expert, the rising cost of fertilizers can negatively affect all areas of agriculture, including grain production, vegetable growing, and fruit growing.
