Five years have passed since the opening of the Fuzuli–Shusha highway, or the Victory Road.
BAKU.WS reminds that the foundation of the highway was laid on November 16, 2020, during the visit of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva to the Fuzuli and Jabrayil districts liberated from occupation. This road plays an important role in the revival and development of Karabakh.
Thanks to the Ahmadbeyli–Fuzuli–Shusha highway, the distance from Baku to the city of Shusha has been reduced and is approximately 345 km.
The new road is 19.3 km shorter than the old one and consists of 4–6 traffic lanes. Along the road, 194 drainage pipes of various diameters have been laid, and 38 underpasses, 11 bridges, 7 tunnels, and 9 viaducts have been built.
On November 7, 2021, President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva took part in the official opening ceremony of the Victory Road in the Fuzuli district. It was a historic event in terms of the development of the region.
The new Fuzuli–Shusha highway begins from the section of the Hajigabul–Bahramtapa–Minjivan–state border with the Republic of Armenia main road, passing through the village of Ahmadbeyli in the Fuzuli district, and runs through the territories of the liberated Fuzuli, Khojavend, Khojaly, and Shusha districts. The highway covers more than 20 settlements of the mentioned districts.
The Victory Road was built in a short time and was put into operation as early as September 2021. It is of great importance in terms of realizing the economic potential of Karabakh, developing tourism, and improving the well-being of the population. The new road will contribute to the revival and prosperity of the region.
