A person's sleep quality depends not only on stress levels and physical activity but also on nutrition. Following certain rules for eating before bedtime can significantly improve night rest, said Alena Gavrilova, a doctor from the sleep medicine department.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to "Vechernyaya Moskva," the specialist noted that dinner before bedtime should be light and not overload the gastrointestinal tract. According to her, it is important to avoid excessive amounts of hard-to-digest protein, as it can worsen sleep quality.
- For example, a small piece of cod is digested quite quickly, whereas chicken protein takes longer to digest, and in this case, sleep may be less deep and fulfilling, - the doctor explained.
The expert also emphasized that fatty foods should not be consumed before bedtime. Such food heavily loads the gastrointestinal tract, forcing the body to work actively at night instead of resting, which negatively affects recovery and overall sleep quality.
