Named an unexpected vegetable that ruins eyes
Doctors and nutritionists warn: a popular vegetable that many consider healthy can negatively affect eye health. We're talking about potatoes.
According to experts, excessive consumption of potatoes, especially fried or in the form of chips, can increase the risk of developing age-related macular degeneration (AMD) - a condition that leads to deteriorating vision and even blindness.
Scientists explain this by the high glycemic index of potatoes, which causes sharp spikes in blood sugar levels. This, in turn, can trigger inflammatory processes in the body, including in the retina of the eye.
Experts recommend reducing potato consumption and replacing it with foods that are more beneficial for vision, such as carrots, spinach, blueberries, and fatty fish rich in omega-3 acids.
