Prostate cancer most often does not manifest in the early stages and only makes itself known in an "advanced" form. This was told to the Daily Mirror by Peter Johnson, Professor of Medical Oncology at the University of Southampton (UK).

According to him, the main danger of the disease is the absence of symptoms in the initial stages. Pain in the bones, back or testicles, urination problems, loss of appetite and sudden weight loss appear when the tumor reaches a significant size.

"Prostate cancer usually doesn't show symptoms until it grows large enough to affect the urethra," noted Dr. Johnson.

He also emphasized that similar manifestations occur in other, non-oncological diseases, and may also be associated with age-related changes.

"Prostate cancer usually develops in men over 50 years of age. Diagnosis includes medical examination, scanning and blood test for PSA (prostate-specific antigen)," the expert explained.

The oncologist reminded that the only way to detect the disease at an early stage is regular examination. He recommended that men over 50 years of age undergo a check-up once a year regardless of whether they have complaints.
