In an unexpected fruit, a substance that strengthens muscles was found

Scientists from Coventry University (UK) have found that the natural antioxidant resveratrol helps maintain muscle strength even on a high-fat diet. The results are published in the journal The Journal of Physiology.
Resveratrol, found in red grapes, peanuts, and some other foods, has long been known for its anti-inflammatory properties. The new study shows for the first time that it can also protect muscles from metabolic stress caused by poor nutrition.
For 12 weeks, scientists fed laboratory mice a fatty diet. Some of the animals received additional resveratrol. This group maintained significantly higher muscle function compared to the control group. A particularly pronounced effect was observed in fast-twitch fibers, which are most susceptible to the negative effects of fatty foods.
The researchers note that these results are important given the prevalence of obesity: according to WHO, about a billion people live with this condition. Clinical trials involving humans are planned in the near future to evaluate the effectiveness of resveratrol in preventing muscle weakness and other consequences of obesity.
