Doctor explained which foods will help normalize sleep

Products containing melatonin, such as broccoli, tomatoes, cherries or cherry juice, will help normalize sleep if added to the evening diet, said gastroenterologist, candidate of medical sciences Ekaterina Kashukh. This is reported by Life.ru.
The specialist emphasized that the key to peaceful sleep is reducing the level of stress hormones, especially cortisol, and increasing the concentration of melatonin - the natural sleep regulator. To achieve healthy and quality night rest, the expert recommends enriching the evening diet with foods rich in the "sleep hormone." In addition to those already mentioned, this list includes bananas, strawberries, pomegranates, apricots, mint, rice, eggs, walnuts and almonds, cabbage, and grapes.
For effective melatonin synthesis, the body needs tryptophan - an important amino acid that is especially abundant in hard cheeses, cottage cheese, oats, milk, yogurt, soy, cocoa, and whole grain bread. The doctor noted that oatmeal with warm milk can be an ideal late snack.
"Some microelements, especially magnesium, also contribute to healthy sleep. It helps improve sleep quality: allows you to fall asleep faster and wake up less during the night," Kashukh emphasized.
According to the specialist, magnesium is found in large quantities in cashews and almonds, as well as in sunflower and sesame seeds. Herbal tea can additionally improve sleep quality - for example, chamomile, which contains apigenin with a pronounced hypnotic effect, or mint, which has a calming effect on the nervous system.
However, the gastroenterologist warns: dietary adjustment is not a panacea for insomnia. This approach can significantly improve sleep quality for problems related to fatigue or stress, but it is only one aspect of a comprehensive approach to ensuring a full night's rest.
