Scientists made the discovery of the century on Mars

Scientists have found a network of ancient river channels on Mars, stretching for almost 10,000 miles (about 16,000 km). This indicates that in the past, the Red Planet had much more water than previously thought.
The channels, which are over 3 billion years old, were visible thanks to detailed images obtained from orbital spacecraft. Some of them are short, while others form extensive water networks.
Researchers believe that the rivers could have been fed by regular precipitation - rain or snowfall. Interestingly, previously no signs of water presence were found in the area where these discoveries were made.
Graduate student Adam Losekut noted: "This came as a surprise to scientists, as it was believed until now that there was no water in this area. It turns out that water on the planet was distributed extremely unevenly." According to him, local atmospheric precipitation was likely the source of the water.
One of the most mysterious regions was Noachis Terra. Computer models indicate that there should have been significant precipitation here, but there are almost no traces of valleys and channels. This calls into question previous ideas about the climate of this area, reports The Guardian.
