Medical professionals in Arizona have recorded a patient's death from pneumonic plague. This was reported by the Coconino County Health Department.

"Representatives of the Coconino County Health and Human Services Department received [test] results on July 11, 2025, and confirmed that a county resident died from pneumonic plague - a severe lung infection caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis (plague bacillus - TASS note)", - stated in the department's message on their Facebook page (banned in Russia; belongs to Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation).

It is noted that this is the first human death from this disease in the county since 2007. No information about the identity of the deceased is provided.

Pneumonic plague is the most severe and least common form of this disease and is accompanied by damage to the respiratory system.
