The 2026 FIFA World Cup has already made history with record-breaking scoring: the number of goals scored has surpassed the previous achievement of world championships.

As reported by BAKU.WS citing foreign media, after the third round of group stage matches, 177 goals have already been scored at the tournament. This broke the record of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where teams collectively found the net 172 times.

The current World Cup has become the first in history to feature 48 national teams. In the previous seven World Cups held from 1998 to 2022, 32 teams competed for the planet's main trophy.

As of June 26, 19 teams have already secured their spots in the knockout stage. In addition, the first four matchups of the Round of 32 have been determined: the USA will play against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil will face Japan, the Netherlands will take on Morocco, and Canada will compete against South Africa for a place in the next round.

The World Cup is being held from June 11 to July 19 at stadiums in the USA, Mexico, and Canada. The reigning title holders remain the Argentine national team, which won the 2022 tournament by defeating France in the final.
