"Azerbaijan Railways" (ADY) signed a contract for the purchase of four new mainline passenger locomotives with the Chinese company CRRC Ziyang.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to ADY, the document was signed by ADY Chairman Rovshan Rustamov and the head of CRRC Ziyang Co. Ltd Chen Zhixin during the visit of the ADY delegation to China.

The delivery of the locomotives to Azerbaijan is expected during 2027.

The parties also discussed issues of modernizing the locomotive fleet of "Azerbaijan Railways," enhancing the technical capabilities of rolling stock for freight and passenger transportation, ensuring flexible and safe services amid growing freight volumes along international transport corridors, as well as prospects for expanding cooperation.

Representatives of the delegations also held negotiations on the next stage of cooperation, which envisages the purchase of an additional 14 locomotives.

ADY also recalled that in September, seven new freight locomotives are planned to be delivered to Azerbaijan under last year's contract with CRRC Ziyang. The ADY delegation familiarized itself with the final stage of the locomotive manufacturing process, and an exchange of views on a number of technical issues took place. The mainline AC50-type locomotives, equipped with the most advanced technologies, are planned to be used for freight transportation along international transport corridors passing through the territory of Azerbaijan.
