Protests against Elon Musk are taking place across America

Protests Against Elon Musk and Trump Administration Gain Momentum in USA
When protesters gathered this month at government buildings in different states and federal agencies, they held signs with messages against an unelected billionaire leading an aggressive campaign to cut government programs.
As protest movements grow during Donald Trump's second term, Elon Musk is becoming one of the main targets for dissatisfied citizens.
"He's an Especially Repulsive Villain"
"He's even less popular than Trump, and that makes sense because he's not only unelected by the people but is also the richest person in the world who's trying to stop cancer research and deprive the country's poorest children of food assistance," said Ezra Levin, co-founder of the activist organization Indivisible.
Trump's 2024 inauguration didn't trigger as massive protests as in 2017. This time he won the popular vote for the first time, and Republicans gained control of both chambers of Congress, which weakened anti-establishment protest movements. However, Musk's growing influence in Washington has become a catalyst for a new wave of protests.
Protests Against Musk and Trump Spread Across the Country
In Washington and other cities, Indivisible activists and other left-wing movements are organizing protests, moving from one federal agency to another, monitoring Musk's decisions and his unofficial "Department of Government Efficiency" (DOGE), which is actively eliminating social programs.
Protesters express not only outrage about Musk and Trump but also try to pressure the Democratic Party, demanding more decisive action. According to Levin, Democrats aren't showing enough activity in resisting the new administration, and the protest movement is trying to push them toward this.
Musk - A Convenient Enemy for Protest Mobilization
"The Trump administration is already full of potential villains, but Musk is especially bad, and it's easy to mobilize against him," noted Levin. "We knew that at some point there would be a protest wave. But we didn't expect the richest person in the world to simply announce on social media that the Department of Education no longer exists. It's madness".
Emergence of the 50501 Movement and Nationwide Protests
New protests began emerging on internet forums in January. It all started with a Reddit post where someone randomly chose February 5 as the date for a nationwide action in 50 states. Thus emerged the 50501 movement (50 states, 50 protests, 1 day), claiming that actions took place in 80 cities that day.
Although traditional left-wing organizations were initially wary of these protests, they are now getting involved in the movement. The organizers of 50501 have already planned a new rally for February 17 under the slogan "Day of Action: Not My President".
