Elchin Amirbekov: The ball is in Armenia's court

Azerbaijan is ready to conclude a peace treaty with Armenia to end the long-standing crisis.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Oxu.Az, this was stated by the Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan, Elchin Amirbekov, during his visit to Argentina, where he met with Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein and Cabinet Chief Guillermo Francos. Additionally, he met with civil society groups, including the think tank Consejo Argentinos para las Relaciones Internacionales (CARI).
He confirmed that Azerbaijan and Armenia are close to concluding a historic agreement.
According to Amirbekov, constitutional reform on Armenia's part is a necessary step for establishing sustainable peace.
"The current constitution of Armenia contains territorial claims to the sovereign territory of Azerbaijan. We would like these claims to be removed from the Armenian constitution, because if they remain, they could pose a serious threat to the future of peace. We do not want to leave any legal grounds for possible attempts by Armenians in the future to make claims to our territories. Therefore, the ball is now in Armenia's court," he stated.
Furthermore, according to Amirbekov, to sign a peace agreement, it is necessary to abolish the OSCE Minsk Group and related structures.
"European armed forces patrolling the conditional border between Armenia and Azerbaijan will also have to leave our region.
We firmly believe that the future of our relations is in the hands of Azerbaijan and Armenia, and there is no need for any third party in this matter, no need for outside forces," he said.
During Elchin Amirbekov's visit to Argentina, trade and economic ties were also discussed. He expressed hope for strengthening relations between Azerbaijan and Argentina in this area, particularly through cooperation in the agricultural sector and trade.
In this regard, the representative of the President of Azerbaijan emphasized that Azerbaijan's conflict with Armenia should not affect relations with Argentina.
It should be noted that this Latin American country is home to the third largest Armenian diaspora in the world.
"I believe that Argentina has excellent relations with Armenia, but this does not mean and should not mean that Argentina cannot have excellent relations with Azerbaijan," Amirbekov concluded.
