Azerbaijan elected as a member of UNESCO committee
On December 1-2, the 16th meeting of the States Parties to the Second Protocol to the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was held.
As BAKU.WS reports, this was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, Azerbaijan was elected as a member of the UNESCO Committee for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict for the period 2025-2029. Six countries, including Azerbaijan, competed for four vacant positions. As a result of the competitive election, the majority of participating countries voted for Azerbaijan in the first round.
It should be noted that this committee was established to ensure the protection of cultural property during armed conflicts, to monitor compliance with the requirements of the 1954 Hague Convention and its Second Protocol, as well as to assist in providing technical, legal, and institutional support to states in this field.
Azerbaijan's election as a member of this committee demonstrates our country's positive image in the field of cultural heritage protection on the international stage, its active participation on international platforms, and its consistently implemented policies.
Previously, Azerbaijan was already a member of the UNESCO Committee for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict from 2021-2025.
