The brother of the Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II, Gevork Nersisyan, and his nephew Hambardzum Nersisyan have been found guilty of obstructing an election campaign.

As reported by Armenian media, the verdict was announced on Thursday by Judge Gevork Manukyan of the Court of First Instance of the Armavir region.

The sentence will be handed down later. Additional hearings are scheduled for October 15.

Gevork Nersisyan and his son Hambardzum Nersisyan were arrested on November 3, 2025. According to the investigation, on November 1, in the village of Voskeat, part of the enlarged community of Vagharshapat, they got into a conflict with a representative of the "Republic" party who was distributing campaign materials, and insulted him. On November 17, the case was referred to court.

In February 2026, they were placed under house arrest, and in May — under administrative supervision. The arrest of the Catholicos's relatives occurred amid an escalating confrontation between the authorities and the Armenian Church.
